She also seems to have deleted her livejournal entirely - and also all posts she's made in communities and so on, because her stories/posts have gone from discoveredinalj, which makes me rather cross to be honest... Why do people give to others, and then snatch back what they gave? It's just unkind and unnecessary! You have to specifically choose to do it, too - it's not the default when you delete your lj...
Thank you for this. Yes it was a post this morning re the latest CD addition which prompted me to go looking for other Maddalia stories. It's good that members of Proslib can still access them but having them up at the Archive was a bonus and now all the links to them there are redundant. But yes, at least some of the stories can still be accessed somewhere.
That's such a shame, I love Maddalia's stories. moonlightmead once said to me that she always downloaded stories she liked straight away because she got caught out like this once.
Because I often don't have time to read online now, I often end up downloading them by default. But I know I will have lost some terrific works.
I did speak to Maddalia a while back about a work I wanted to find, Maddalia said it had been taken down for tinkering, but it never seemed to go back up - maybe that has some bearing.
Sometimes people do this when they're ready to file off the serial numbers and go pro, the story I was enquiring about was entirely about the OCs from a Pros fic. Maybe there are other reasons for it. It's not really our place to judge what's going on in someone else's life.
But I think MLM's advice (as ever) was sound.
I keep meaning to get onto the Pros Lib circuit - maybe I will finally do something about that now. Anyhoo - off now - won't have access to t'internet for a bit - just dropped by to say hello and commiserate.
Thank you for dropping by and for your commiseration! And yes, I’d definitely recommend saving stories (which I should do but usually don't!) but sadly that would still leave links which go nowhere.

I’d wondered if that was the reason and yes, it’s up to the author what they do with their work, but it's fandom’s loss. (Part of the reason I loved her BB stories was because of the strength of the OCs.) Two or three of my favourite writers have taken down their stories and I miss them!
And getting onto the Pros Lib circuit is *definitely* worth it, there are hundreds of great stories to be had. I bought my disc around 2001/2 but I think there are updated different ways to read the stories now and you've reminded me that it's time I bought a new version!
