Stories where the lads had met when they were children ….

I have just finished reading the zine "Virtual Pros: The Christmas Edition", which contained a story by Russ called "Manifest Destiny" (on the Pros CD the story is called "Destiny"), which had the lads meeting when they were children — both had been placed into foster care and being looked after by another family. Doyle being placed into care because his father had hit him, and Bodie (Billy) because his mother had died. Billy looked after Ray, and stole a Christmas present for Ray, but never got the chance to give it to him because Ray had run away back home to his parents. The story ends back in to the present time, but the lads do not remember having met each other when they were young.

"Manifest Destiny" was very similar to another story I had read recently, but which I cannot remember the title, or locate the story. This story is also about the lads meeting when they were children. However in this story, it's Bodie who's the runaway, and Ray who looked after him. I think Ray gave Bodie his pocket-knife as a present, and Bodie goes back to his own home. At the end of the story, I believe they do remember that they had met before when they were younger.

Does anyone know the title of this story or know where it is located?

And a second question:- are there any other similar stories where the lads had met before where they were children? The only other one that I could think of is a story from the Circuit Archive which had the lads meeting where they were very young and in the same school (I can't remember the title to this one either *g*).
