I'm not partial to death fics usually but this one really gripped me, it was a shortish story from memory and Bodie and Doyle were sitting, backs to the wall both dying with bullet holes in them. Cowley found them. Does anyone remember this one?

You'd think someone would know this story, wouldn't you as it's got a very memorable ending? Have you tried checking out the death fics section at Pen's original Hatstand site? It looks very comprehensive:

It's the one that starts off with Doyle insisting that Bodie plays I Spy, isn't it, and eventually they get to B for body, and then we realise that Doyle's doing it to keep Bodie awake, and eventually Bodie gets peeved but then realises that the reason Doyle's not getting up either is that he's injured too... and then Cowley turns up and...but can I think of the title or who it's by? No.... but maybe it'll trigger your memory a bit more!

I was thinking of the same story except in this story both Bodie and Doyle survived (ie this is not a death fic!). The shootout takes place in a car park and both lads are badly injured. Cowely do find them both huddled close together against the wall.

The story is I Spy by Liz Bradford & Cherilyn in the zine Unprofessional Conduct 8.

Actually I don't think this is the story because the one I am remembering (not enough of it though) is rather short and I don't remember it having much of a plot, but this one you have described sounds right up my alley anyway. Thanks for the reccie and thanks for your reply *g*

thanks starlite, that's not the one I don't think but I'm keen to read this one anyway so not all is lost!

The one I read was definitely a death fic and I know it was on line as I have only ever had the opportunity to read a couple of zines.

I'll let you know if I ever find it. *g*

I have read this too! Argh!

I too thought of the I Spy one, but apparently not. So I waded through the Proslib CD with the aid of the Hatstand list. All those stories. Such a hardship.

The two closest I can find are both by anonymous authors. In 'Final Twilight', the shootout is in a farmhouse, but not everything else matches up. And in 'From Dream to Nightmare... and Return', that specific image you describe, and which I remember too, is not in it.

I hope someone else identifies this one. I want to know too!

I am glad someone else remembers it too that way I know I'm am not going crazy or just dreamed it! I remember when I read it I kept re reading that scene as it was so intense...doh! why didn't I make a note of it somewhere???

Are you two sure that you don't mean the ending of the Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid movie? It's exactly the same scene - except with Cowley of course. :-)

Or maybe it's an adaption to that movie and the name is similar?

I think it's strange that nobody knows it - although I am happy that people obviously don't care too much for death fics!!! ;-)

Definitely not from the Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid movie because I've never seen it *g* however the author who ever they are may have and may have been influenced by it!

I've got it! At least, I think so. I have been reading through the ProsLib CD and found Final Twilight on Disk 15, but I can't find an author. Anyway, perhaps this is what you were thinking of? I hope so.
