protective!Cowley

Apologies for lack of Pros icon. The idea of having to choose one is overwhelming! Are there any fics where Doyle has to protect Cowley or the other way round? e.g. abduction, hostage situation, injury. Could be some self sacrifice involved. Or even the Cow simply defending Doyle in general. I'm not thinking slashy as that really wouldn't be my cuppa cha between those two but I long for Doyle to gain that "blue-eyed boy" status once in a while, perhaps surprising or bringing out / revealing some sort of protective instinct in Cowley. Enjoy gen as well as slash (preferably Bodie/Doyle).

Cowley chooses Doyle rather than Bodie for various missions in stories - though I suppose that's anything but "protective"! I've just re-read Tarot's Of Tethered Goats and Tigers (http://www.thecircuitarchive.com/tca/archive/16/oftethered.html), where Doyle is chosen to pose as Cowley's boyfriend and potential successor as head of CI5... he's pretty blue-eyed in this one! *g*

I'm sure there's lot's more, but I've not had a cup of coffee yet, and I'm blank - I'll try and think, though!

"The White Cloth" which was listed in the day as by Nell Howell (author now listed as Istia) is an old favourite of mine which fits the bill for your description in many ways but which does contain the only even vaguely convincing Doyle/Cowley pairing that I could bring myself to countenance - but hey, it all ends well, iykwim. A fair amount of Cowley tenderness in places and general angst and h/c if that's your thing.
