Please help: my twin sister told me about a story with Bodie as the owner of a hotel... sound interesting but she can not remember the title and I have no time for an extensive search. Any idea?
I thought it was highly unlikely as it's certainly not the memorable thing about that story but sometimes my mind clutches on to odd things about stories, so...
Nothing obvious springs to mind - unless maybe The Temple of Venus (http://www.thecircuitarchive.com/tca/archive/9/thetemple.html) by Lizzie? Bodie owns a stately home that he runs as a conference centre.
Sounds like it could be Rhiannon's Music in the Dark - Bodie owns a hotel/cafe on top of windswept moors, and Doyle's car breaks down and he's forced to wait out the storm there. It's not online though - Rhiannon isn't - but it's in Unprofessional Conduct 1 (http://www.palelyloitering.com/Fic/musicinthedark.html)
I can remember ages ago reading a story (possibly from the Proslib cd) which is a historical (say Victorian or Edwardian) AU and Bodie has inherited a run-down hotel in Scotland from his uncle. And somehow meets Doyle in the course of restoring it but is bereft when Doyle finishes and goes back to London iirc. But I'm blowed if I can remember the title or recognise a title from the Historical AUs List on Hatstand. Will keep thinking and trying to remember!
Ah, it was Highland Comfort by Elspeth Leigh I was thinking of - which is on the old Hatstand. http://hatstand.slashcity.net/elspeth/highland.html Maybe not historical after all but I don't have time to read it just at the moment!
Thank you all for the lovely recommendations! It`s a pleasure to read my way through that list, but my twin said it`s another one. Something with Bodie inviting Doyle in a (his) hotel, surprising him...
Hi Firefly, Your line: 'Something with Bodie inviting Doyle in a (his) hotel, surprising him...' makes me wonder if your sister's thinking of a story about a big home rather than a hotel. On numerous stakeouts Doyle would confide to Bodie about his 'dream house'. After Doyle's been badly injured (confined to wheelchair?) Bodie sets the both of them up in this home he's built / redeveloped for Doyle. There's an odd job / valet person who lives on the premises and even a room set aside for Cowley. If you think this rings a bell I'll try searching for the title. Cheers Helen
No, thank you, I think you mean "A Different Game" by DVS, but it really is a hotel Bodie bought after his mercenary days to save money for the future. I`m still searching and it sounds more interesting the longer I look.
