I'm looking for a story. B&D are on the outs with each other. Ray's been hurt and is training with Macklin and Towser. Bodie, who has been away and doesn't know about Ray's injuries, witnesses one of the sessions and can't figure out why they are taking it easy on Ray. B&D end up in the training center together and take each other on. Bodie wins, hurting Ray a bit. They get caught at it by one of the trainers...
Not much to go on...
Thanks

There are so many H/C stories involving the boys. Has anyone made a list broken down by type of injury/wound/illness/etc... ? Are there any where one of them has a serious illness (cancer, MS, HIV) other than the hepatitis and head injury stories?

I've never seen a list like that...

There are definitely stories where one of them has a serious illness, a few where AIDS is dealt with.... Erm, off the top of my head I can only think of a couple:
Silence = Death (http://www.oblique-publications.net/archives/1note/11_1Qsilence.pdf) by M.Fae Glasgow (AIDS)
Sword of Damocles (http://www.palelyloitering.com/zines/sword%20of%20damocles.html) by Trish Darbyfeld deals with AIDS I think (I've not read it actually).

Hmmn, there's one called something like "Handsome Is As Handsome Does" (but more concisely!), where Bodie's seriously injured... And Nell Howell wrote one, iirc, but she seems to have taken her stories off all the archives... she's probably over at Archive of Our Own though, cos she's been promoting that... Aha - here it is, Dancing in the Rain (http://archiveofourown.org/works/3400), where Doyle's been seriously injured... I do wish it was still in our archives, they were so much easier to navigate, and smoother to read! And her pseud is now "Istia" in case it's helpful to know!

Oh, there's a brilliant portrayal of depression in Helen Raven's Heat-trace (http://www.kelper.co.uk/helenraven/trace.html), if you want to count that as a serious illness...

Erm... I know there are quite a few more, but I'll have to think more about it... We could try asking over at [livejournal.com profile] ci5hq, if you like, and I could make up a list for Palelyloitering (http://www.palelyloitering.com/)...

What's the "hepatitus" story you're thinking of?

It was exactly that, "Hepatitis", by Anne Carr, about Bodie. I asked about it here a while ago. I have read 'Heat Trace', and that does count. 'Dancing' is good too.

I know there are a couple stories in which Bodie is temporarily blind. I also think there is one with Bodie permanently blind, Doyle thinks him dead, then finds out he's actually alive and returns.

Between us all , we could probably compile quite a list.

Being in the process of re-reading Jigsaw Puzzle right now, I can only agree with

It's about a third into the story.

I've never seen a list like that!
Maybe you could start one? :)
And may I ask about the hepatitis story(ies) you mention? I don't think I've ever read one.
Malaria, and various other fevers, appendicitis, flu, but I can't remember any long term illness stories, just injury related ones.

Don't think I'd want to read too many of them, to tell you the truth.

Sorry, Siskiou, I'm a sucker for H/C. But, I can't read the death stories. Not if it involves Bodie or Doyle anyway. Murphy, Cowlye or anyone else, no problem.

I think we may have prodded BSL into creating a 'new' list.

Heee - I was going to ask if you'd like me to post about it, if you're feeling shy, but I see that's been your cunning plan... *vbg*

I must admit, I don't particularly want to read many serious illness fics myself - I don't mind a good death story now and then (as long as the lads end up together in spirit!), or when it's by a really good writer like Heat-trace, but I don't really need the lads badly sick unless it's temporary and there's some nice h/c and partner-worry and the like... *g* It'd be interesting to see what's around, though...

And hee that I forgot the whole Hepatitus by Ann Carr discussion!

And you fell into my trap very nicely BSL!

I don't want to see the boys seriously ill either, and most of the stories I have read like 'Amid the Noise&Haste, Out of the Shadows, Alone Again, Hepatitis, The Flu, Voiceover, Fever', etc... are all temporary with lots of angst. I like them to recover too! ILWB has a nice story at Archive of Our Own, 'Common Law'.

I also read S&H fanfiction and there are some cancer related stories in that genre. One in which Hutch suffers but survives and one where Starsky suffers but dies. I have yet to come across anything similar in Pros.
