I mentioned this hypothetical plot to
scherwood and she cleverly suggested I ask here.
Is there a fic with a plot like this?:
A Baddy makes an offer to Bodie or Doyle to do something corrupt (think 'Rogue' or 'Kickback') in return for a huge pay-off, enough to secure their future post-CI5, enable them to retire early, live together happily ever after...
After wrestling with temptation, he/they do the right thing in the end (of course - lads are incorruptible!).

On the other hand, if they would find - accidentally - a huge amount of money, I could imagine that they forget to give it back...
There was this Dutch author Janwillem van de Wetering who has done something like that with his heroes.
But then it was something different...
No! No, they wouldn't do somethong like that!
No!
So - there can't be such a story! ;-)

Date: 2011-09-22 10:21 pm (UTC)definitely, neither Bodie or Doyle could be corrupted, but I would enjoy reading about them thinking about it and trying to decide. Maybe one wanting to take the money just so they could live happily ever after (Bodie, for some reason seems the most likely) and the other (Doyle obviously) raising all the moral/ethical objections. Arguing about it, then making up...
Even if they just found a lot of money, accidentally, they would probably hand it in - Doyle would anyway.

I really would wish someone would write such a fic with a 'bad' Doyle!!! Yes!
*big sigh*

It would be even more interesting to portray Doyle as tempted into dishonesty - but can you imagine it? It would simply be OOC.

We know from canon that he fought against police corruption, and in NtK Cowley rolls his eyes at him when he says "It's not a bribe, Doyle!" as if he thinks Doyle will refuse the glass of scotch offered to him when Cowley's under suspicion! It would be pretty difficult to write a believable story where Doyle went along with something like bribery or corruption.
If it makes you feel better though, there's lots of "bad Doyle" stories - he's just not bad corruption-wise! There's one where he rapes a girl (to him it isn't rape), and there's Velvet Underground, and depending on your definition of "bad" he's given a bad guy role in various Sebastian and Kate Maclean stories... *g*

Date: 2011-09-23 06:53 am (UTC)That said, it'd have to fight hard against our canon that Doyle was anti-corruption in the Met, and that moment in NtK where Cowley is impatient with him for wondering if Cowley was trying to corrupt them with a glass of scotch - It's not a bribe, Doyle!... *g*
I can see Bodie being more tempted, maybe because he has the more immoral mercenary background, and seems less... not principled... erm... has a simpler view of people and life, so that look after number one (and Doyle *g*) is more important to him than philosophical/societal considerations...
I'll be interested to see if the story you're thinking of exists, though! (Oh, and if it's hypothetical, maybe it'd make a good discussion for
