I mentioned this hypothetical plot to [livejournal.com profile] scherwood and she cleverly suggested I ask here.

Is there a fic with a plot like this?:

A Baddy makes an offer to Bodie or Doyle to do something corrupt (think 'Rogue' or 'Kickback') in return for a huge pay-off, enough to secure their future post-CI5, enable them to retire early, live together happily ever after...

After wrestling with temptation, he/they do the right thing in the end (of course - lads are incorruptible!).

Nice try! ;-)

I don't believe something like that, if the Baddy has any advantage of the whole affair!
On the other hand, if they would find - accidentally - a huge amount of money, I could imagine that they forget to give it back...
There was this Dutch author Janwillem van de Wetering who has done something like that with his heroes.

But then it was something different...
No! No, they wouldn't do somethong like that!
No!
So - there can't be such a story! ;-)

"(Bodie, for some reason seems the most likely) "
Sigh. The poor Bodie. Always misjudged...
I really would wish someone would write such a fic with a 'bad' Doyle!!! Yes!
*big sigh*

Lol - but if you're talking about Doyle being corrupt, it would be totally against canon-Doyle, and so out of character! We know from canon that he fought against police corruption, and in NtK Cowley rolls his eyes at him when he says "It's not a bribe, Doyle!" as if he thinks Doyle will refuse the glass of scotch offered to him when Cowley's under suspicion! It would be pretty difficult to write a believable story where Doyle went along with something like bribery or corruption.

If it makes you feel better though, there's lots of "bad Doyle" stories - he's just not bad corruption-wise! There's one where he rapes a girl (to him it isn't rape), and there's Velvet Underground, and depending on your definition of "bad" he's given a bad guy role in various Sebastian and Kate Maclean stories... *g*

I don't know of one; but see? I think there could be a reason they'd do something like that. Say, one was in trouble (or seemed to be in trouble) and the other one did it to save his mate.

But otherwise, not so much. Although such a fic could be interesting if done right.

Hmmn, I can't think of a story with that plot offhand, but on the other hand it sounds like a fairly obvious plot, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was one...

That said, it'd have to fight hard against our canon that Doyle was anti-corruption in the Met, and that moment in NtK where Cowley is impatient with him for wondering if Cowley was trying to corrupt them with a glass of scotch - It's not a bribe, Doyle!... *g*

I can see Bodie being more tempted, maybe because he has the more immoral mercenary background, and seems less... not principled... erm... has a simpler view of people and life, so that look after number one (and Doyle *g*) is more important to him than philosophical/societal considerations...

I'll be interested to see if the story you're thinking of exists, though! (Oh, and if it's hypothetical, maybe it'd make a good discussion for [livejournal.com profile] ci5hq, or [livejournal.com profile] the_safehouse, if you want to get chatty there... *g*

'Catch A Fallen Star' has Bodie returning to his shady past, after quitting CI5, to get money to buy Doyle back after he's kidnapped. Bodie willing to go to any means to save Doyle, that's the payoff and with no intention of returning to England.

Ooh, that sounds good - do you have a link to the story? Thanks!
