Hello, newbie here! :) I was hoping you might be able to help me. I'm looking for two kinds of stories:

1. Stories that involve the idea or act of a "mercy killing." So far, these are the ones I know:
- "The Cold Calculus" by Morgan Stuart (Cowley kills one of the Lads out of mercy).
- "Living with the Consequences" by Brenda K (Doyle asks Cowley to kill him out of mercy.)
- "A Trophy Highly Prized" by ci5mates (Doyle contemplates the possibility of having to kill Bodie out of mercy.)

2. Stories of "undercover cruelty" in which one of the Lads is undercover and must do something cruel to the other one (torture, rape, etc.) 1) so the cover isn't blown and/or 2) because it's better for his partner that he commits the act instead of one of the baddies. So far, the only one I've found like this is "Rough Ride" by Caroline Dare (rape).

Thanks so much for any help/recs!

Hello! And welcome to Pros and welcome to LJ!

What an excellent pair of questions. I shall look forward to the answers. There definitely are more. There's one where the entire focus is that one of them must beat the other up to preserve their covers, but I can't remember that one's name atm. In the meantime, there is one scene in one of [livejournal.com profile] merentha13's stories which involves undercover work and having to beat up Doyle - it's in Full Circle (http://archiveofourown.org/works/525504).

Oh, how could I forget? The classic example may be Brother's Keeper, the author of which is anonymous. It begins by Bodie having to rape Doyle to stop someone else doing it. Helen Raven wrote a sequel to it, and so that readers understood the sequel, she put the original version on her website, so you can find it there: linky (http://www.kelper.co.uk/trace/keeper.htm)

Maybe you're thinking of 'Bad Luck', by uktechgirl, on the circuit archive.

Whoops! Please ignore my previous note as I've just realised that HR didn't name the writer so there's probably a reason why and therefore I shouldn't have outed him/her! Apologies.

Back again. Just thought of another one for your first question. Not sure it's quite what you're looking for, but Doyle has to consider possibilities when Cowley is captured and Bodie is injured and the whole building is likely to go up in flames. There's no way Bodie can get out of the way of the fire on his own. It's not explicitly said, but the possibility certainly entered my head when I was reading it.

It's In Balance With This Life, by Mazzy Sue, in a zine called Bisto Kids, which is online - here it is (http://infinity.vaportraces.com/infarch.html#anchor55941).

You're very welcome. From that reaction, I suspect we have similar tastes :)

You will find more fic discussion at [livejournal.com profile] ci5hq (good place to ask 'if I like these, what else will I like?') and more fic being posted at [livejournal.com profile] the_safehouse and [livejournal.com profile] teaandswissroll. There is usually a weekly newsletter at [livejournal.com profile] pros_newsletter but the editor is having a well-deserved break at the moment. But that's a place to find updates when she gets back. Oh, and there is a very useful feed of all Pros-tagged uploads to AO3 at [livejournal.com profile] ao3_pros_feedlj too.
