Lost; another one.....

Hello at all of the people of our community!
I was searching between my files one particular story; and it's lost....

I remember a drill in the country (between agencies?)
In pairs
The Boys going well (and a tarpaulin; and a pear tree [??])
And then another pair to be in trouble, and signaling with mirrors
The Boys at the rescue, and being disqualified but Cowley being proud of them

And nothing else.

Somebody would please be so kind to help me?

Bother! It sounds a lot like HG's 'One Of Us Two', if that helps at all... I can't think for the life of me where it's archived though. If I suddenly become more intelligent, I'll let you know!
