Hello, everyone! I'm relatively new to the Pros fandom (got hooked via a Life on Mars/Pros crossover posted over @
lifein1973) and was wondering if anyone could recommend any fanzines? What are your favorites? Where's a good place to buy them? Do you prefer them in paper, cd, or download format? Thanks!

Date: 2008-04-16 08:13 pm (UTC)The best source for a lot of information on current publishers, zines, Proslib (the CD of "circuit" stories), and much more is over at The Hatstand (see the link on this community's page.) This has up-to-date contact information on the publishers and what is available.
My personal favorites are any of the Gryphon Press zines (Unprofessional Conduct is the anthology series, and a bunch of novels), Roses and Lavender (anthology zine), and the recent anthology zine Never Far Apart. You can find out about all of these at The Hatstand. (Full disclosure, though--I have stories in both R&L and Never Far Apart.)

Good luck and enjoy.

Date: 2008-04-16 09:33 pm (UTC)Second, thanks for the welcome!
I've been haunting the Hatstand and the Circuit for the past few months now and they are wonderful places! I especially love the "Random" button at the Circuit Archive (and I can read the stories from my cell phone, which is an added bonus for me).
I like reading most things, even some AU's, which is surprising 'cause I don't usually go in for that sort of thing. There certainly is a lot of stuff out there! A lot of times, fandoms seem to redo/reuse the same ideas over and over, but this one has some very unique stories in it! I'm constantly fascinated by all the different types of stories out there. :o)

Date: 2008-04-16 09:37 pm (UTC)Next thing to ask then is do you have the proslib cd? if you go to the proslib yahoo group, you can get the cd which has 100s of stories on too.
Otherwise, I recc O Yardley's Injured Innocents and A Lovesome Thing Fruit of the Spirit by Cherilyn(these are from Gryphon Press), If you can hold of the Motet set of anthology zines, these are well worth the money. Not a bad story in them.
Good hunting *g*

Date: 2008-04-16 09:28 pm (UTC)I see you're already receiving the best advice. I am very curious about the crossover fic that sent you here. I was browsing the LoM comm and couldn't find it, but I seem to remember seeing it while scrolling through my Friends Page awhile back.
Could you send me to the correct story?
Here is a link to zines that I enjoy:

I really like the Secret Agent Men digest-sized zines.
Pros fandom is crammed with great fic and writers.
Have fun!

Date: 2008-04-21 09:49 pm (UTC)I'll echo recommendations of the Gryphon Press zines. I'd also highly recommend the Roses and Lavender zines, for example, Roses and Lavender 3 (http://www.palelyloitering.com/zines/rosesandlavender3.html) - there's a link to the publisher, Allamagoosa Press, on that page. If nothing else it's got my absolute favourite "Voice-Over" by Elizabeth O'Shea... *g*
I'm a huge fan of proper paper zines actually, but here's another online one (http://www.palelyloitering.com/DIALj%20Bound/Dialj%20Christmas%20Special%202007.pdf) (free), and there're a couple more from
Anyway - welcome to Pros!
