Hello, everyone! I'm relatively new to the Pros fandom (got hooked via a Life on Mars/Pros crossover posted over @ [livejournal.com profile] lifein1973) and was wondering if anyone could recommend any fanzines? What are your favorites? Where's a good place to buy them? Do you prefer them in paper, cd, or download format? Thanks!

Welcome to Pros!

The best source for a lot of information on current publishers, zines, Proslib (the CD of "circuit" stories), and much more is over at The Hatstand (see the link on this community's page.) This has up-to-date contact information on the publishers and what is available.

My personal favorites are any of the Gryphon Press zines (Unprofessional Conduct is the anthology series, and a bunch of novels), Roses and Lavender (anthology zine), and the recent anthology zine Never Far Apart. You can find out about all of these at The Hatstand. (Full disclosure, though--I have stories in both R&L and Never Far Apart.)

Hi! Welcome to Pros. There is absolutely loads to read in this fandom so it really depends on what you like reading. Because it's been around since the 70s, there is lots to go at so Im sure you'll find something.

However, you need to look at the circuit archive www.thecircuitarchive.com and the hatstand http://hatstand.slashcity.net Those are two excellent archives with loads of stories to help get you started.

Good luck and enjoy.

*g* thanks; couldnt resist making it.

Next thing to ask then is do you have the proslib cd? if you go to the proslib yahoo group, you can get the cd which has 100s of stories on too.

Otherwise, I recc O Yardley's Injured Innocents and A Lovesome Thing Fruit of the Spirit by Cherilyn(these are from Gryphon Press), If you can hold of the Motet set of anthology zines, these are well worth the money. Not a bad story in them.

Good hunting *g*

Hey there! Welcome. I'm not sure if they have a website, but if you send me an email at callisto65@gmail.com, I'll send you the flyer with the details of everything in print, cost, ordering, etc.

I don't have many zines, but most of the ones I do have are from Gryphon Press.

You'll find her. Prices are very reasonable too.

Welcom to Pros :)
I see you're already receiving the best advice. I am very curious about the crossover fic that sent you here. I was browsing the LoM comm and couldn't find it, but I seem to remember seeing it while scrolling through my Friends Page awhile back.
Could you send me to the correct story?

Here is a link to zines that I enjoy:

I really like the Secret Agent Men digest-sized zines.

Pros fandom is crammed with great fic and writers.
Have fun!

Thanks for checking. I somehow missed it going through 220 posts at the comm. :-/

I am reading Secret Agent Men 4 as a download. I love reading fic on my computer so this will work quite well for me. I'll also be buying some paper zines, because they are easier to read in bed. LOL

I like the fact that I can pick them up at MWC next month and avoid postage.

May I ask what the download looks like regarding columns?
I was thinking of trying a download zine from that site, but detest reading pdf files with two columns on the computer and they can't be printed.

It comes at a locked adobe file and it looks exactly like the zine. I can enlarge the font, which is a nice feature.

Thanks!

Is the text full page or in two columns?

I'm ordering single column digests. I assume that the larger zines might be two columns. Ask Bast and I'm sure she'll be happy to tell you about anything at her website. :)

I wrote to her yesterday and was told that it was noted on the zine info if it was single column or two, but I can't find that info anywhere.
Am waiting for another mail form her, but was hoping someone would know. :)

All the digests I have from her are single column. Is there a particular zine you're curious about?

The "Secret Agent" ones and "New Memories" for starters.

They are single column. :)

( I already have SAM 1-4 and NM)

Ah, thanks! :)
What do you think of NM?

Kind of late to the discussion, but have you found the Oblique website yet? Lots of fab Pros fic, by some amazing authors - M.Fae Glasgow, Sebastian, Thomas, Tallis, Shoshanna, just to start. Depends what you like, of course, the Oblique stories tend to be a bit grittier, or sometimes darker than alot of fanfic stories. I love 'em to death, so much that I can totally live with the two-column format they use at the website. The zines were originally printed in that format, so I guess they just used it online as well, maybe without thinking about the extra scrolling. Anyway, you can read whole zines there, or just go for Pros stories... and here's the link (http://www.oblique-publications.net/fandom.html#pros).

I'll echo recommendations of the Gryphon Press zines. I'd also highly recommend the Roses and Lavender zines, for example, Roses and Lavender 3 (http://www.palelyloitering.com/zines/rosesandlavender3.html) - there's a link to the publisher, Allamagoosa Press, on that page. If nothing else it's got my absolute favourite "Voice-Over" by Elizabeth O'Shea... *g*

I'm a huge fan of proper paper zines actually, but here's another online one (http://www.palelyloitering.com/DIALj%20Bound/Dialj%20Christmas%20Special%202007.pdf) (free), and there're a couple more from [livejournal.com profile] discoveredinalj on the user page - scroll down past the challenge banners to the "Dialj Bound" zines - only three done so far (me being slack, that is) but they're all well worth a look, with fab authors such as Josey, and Rebelcat and... oh, many!

Anyway - welcome to Pros!
