Forgotten where i read. Amnesia story. Bodie of course. mia during a chase. isolated country location. Taken in by a recluse artist or writer, female variety. plays happy house with her until CI5 comes knocking. Not much to go on but perhaps this rings bells for someone. Thanks in anticipation.

I think it's Fugue in V Minor by Anne Carr.

Thanks for this answer and for making me realise that I've never read any Anne Carr stories! How can this be........?

Just read finished it. I loved the first three quarters but was less impressed with the end but you know that is the gen in me coming out. :) I love h/c and this was more than satisfied with this story, her description of Bodie's condition was dire and I really could see the image of his suffering. Definitely worth the read. There really isn't a lot of Bodie h/c is there?

I'm not too keen on 'first times all the time' either, but this one is nice, I think: ""You could have died," Doyle said quietly, and the words seemed to fill the empty spaces in Bodie's soul."

And isn't the "Had an appointment with my tailor," answer priceless? :-)

"There really isn't a lot of Bodie h/c is there?"
There really could be much more! Sigh...
So, do it! ;-)

"had an appointment with my tailor" really is priceless, I did love that line and made a mental note of how good it was as I read it.

I try to alternate my h/c victims. I am nearly finished a Doyle h/c but he is barely in the story, it is all Bodie's horror so it is a Bodie emotional h/c. It will be Bodie's turn next...promise *g*

I think you've been watching too much Big Brother, for fuck's sake.....

[Thanks for the rec!]

I haven't seen Big Brother for years!

But if you read the story, you know what I'm talking about! ;-)

Oh, right, I thought that word was unusual for you! I've looked at the first paragraph and it reminds me of an elizabeth holden story the title of which escapes me at the moment, but Bodie's in a bad way...

A Man Called Bodie?

"Oh, right, I thought that word was unusual for you!"

Thank you! ;-)

Spoilers, sort of

A Man Called Bodie?

No, I don't think it's that one, I think it's shorter than that one. It might be Close of day but I can't find it where I'd usually look. I've been trying to track it down and I know I've read it a couple of times.. The whole story revolves around Bodie being in a very bad way in the middle of nowhere for a couple of days and nights and it looks as though he's not going to make it.....It's a bit too sad for me, a bit depressing, but at the same time because it's well written it' also manages to be quite compelling.

Firle, I think you would like Close of Day .... there is a hopeful ending after all the pains and sufferings Bodie has to endure.

Close of Day by Elizabeth Holden is located in the zine Motet: Opus 4 in B and D. I'm not sure if the story is available online.

Thank you!
But I'm a mollycoddle...., somehow a 'hopeful ending' isn't enough for me!
Because I'm always thinking that the author wanted to write a death fic and is just too nice/fainthearted to finish it off...

LOL! Yeah, I want them alive and happy in the end! :-)

I was just about to get back to you and say maybe it was *another* story.....one where it seems as if Bodie's waking up in a coffin (or some dark underground place) on his own but then he realises Doyle's with him, but I can't remember the title of that one either! Oh, well.....

You don't mean this Halloween story, where they were really in a coffin?

I read Death and Life and quite liked it, though Bodie's early reminiscing about all the people he'd miss made me a bit too sad (there's something about Bodie being beaten or dying which I really can't take and don't enjoy reading about and I hate seeing him beaten onscreen). I loved your beautiful quotes and the idea of an 'antiseptic hosptial'! God, if only........

Thanks for the rec.

Yeah, I know what you mean.
That reminds me of the BigBang this year - with hopefully less tortue than last year! ;-)

Glad you liked it at least 'quite'!
